VI1557 Wagon inspector HO

PrintEmail
Prior to each train journey, the wagon inspector independently assesses the operational safety and roadworthiness of trains and carriages, as well as their cargoes. He turns around and strikes the wheel with his hammer to determine a possible fracture of the wheel rim based on the sound test.
Mounting depth: 39 mm
Modellers may recall, (as I can from the 1940s and 50s), railway workers who walked along the length of a row of wagons, striking the wheel of each one with a heavy, metal rod, to hear from the sound whether a wheel was cracked or not. You may also remember a Brit show on T.V. in the mid 70s, The Wheel Tappers and Shunters Club, which purported to be a social club for these workers.
